To protect the Empire's shipping routes, the British Navy built a large number of destroyers in the years leading up to World War II. The nine ships of the so-called E-class, Exmouth, Echo, Eclipse, Electra, Encounter, Escapade, Escort, Esk, and Express, were completed in 1934 and participated in many important operations during World War II, including the hunt for the Bismarck and the Battle of the Java Sea. The E-class was roughly equivalent in size to its predecessors but featured enlarged superstructures, anti-submarine equipment, and mine detection gear on board. The authentic 1:700 scale TAMIYA model kit includes decal markings for all nine ships of the E-class.
