The Birmingham Small Arms Company (BSA) can look back on a long history as a firearms manufacturer and was well known for its production of motorcycles during World War II. In 1939, BSA began production of the military variant of the M20, this commercially available motorcycle was equipped with Lucas lighting and other additional equipment. It was powered by a 12 horsepower side-valve single-cylinder engine with a displacement of 500 cc. Throughout production, there were various modifications - the final motorcycles, for example, had an air filter on the tank. Over 126,000 units were built during the war, the majority of which were used by the British Army. They served on every front for a variety of tasks, such as field postal service and supply escort. Some of the motorcycles were also used by the RAF and the British Navy. After the war, the M20 continued to serve during the 1950s, with some even still in use in the 1960s.
