The scale model is a recreation of the German heavy tank destroyer named Elephant. In 1941, Porsche developed a tank prototype with radical features such as a gasoline-electric hybrid powertrain. By 1943, the tank was converted into a Ferdinand tank destroyer, equipped with an 8.8 cm long PaK 43 L/71 cannon in a large boxy superstructure. In 1944, 50 surviving Ferdinands were modified, including the addition of a machine gun and a commander's cupola, and were renamed Elefant. The Elefants saw action on the Italian and Eastern Fronts, with some fighting until the end of World War II during the Battle of Berlin.
